Vanessa Stewart and Evan Johnson

June 30, 2012

How we met...

We have known each other since childhood.  However, it wasn't until our mutual friends started all hanging out together, that we got to know each other well and realized there was something there.

Our Engagement Story...
Evan took us up to Green Bay for a Packers game the weekend of our engagement.  He had been acting strange all weekend, and I had terrifying thoughts of him proposing to me in front of thousands of people at the game.  Luckily, that didn't happen, and we left the game with a Packers win as we started our trip back home....so I thought.

A couple hours into the drive, Evan surprised me with a trip to Chicago.  He thought I would realize it after the mulitple road signs reading Chicago, which we passed, but once he realized I was clueless, he filled me in on his surprise.

Once we were in the city, Evan pulled up to one of the Marriotts off Michigan Avenue, and said we had an hour to get ready to go out.  Once ready, he hailed a cab and asked to take us to the Lincoln Park Zoo.  I questioned why the zoo in the dead of winter, but little did I know that during christmastime, the Lincoln Park Zoo puts on one of the best christmas light shows in the world (A top 12 according to msn.com :-)  As we walked down the many paths of christmas lights and ice sculptures, Evan found a nice quiet little spot to get down on one knee and propose.  I of course, said yes, and after one or two shed tears, we started walking again.  Evan suggested we go to the gift shop and get a souvenier to remember the night by.  I picked out a cute little snowglobe ornament, and he picked out a horse.  I questioned why a horse, but he got it anyway.  After we left the giftshop and were heading towards the main road to hail a cab, Evan explained that the reason he got a horse was because of our transportation to dinner.  Right there as we turned the corner, was a beautiful horse drawn carriage waiting to take us around Chicago until our dinner reservations.  Evan and I enjoyed a cozy little carriage ride around the city, until it was time for dinner.  The carriage pulled up to the John Hancock Building, which was where we would have dinner.  Evan took us up to the 95th floor's Signature Room, a fabulous restaurant overlooking the entire city of Chicago.  There, we enjoyed champagne, dinner, dessert, and our finally being engaged.  I will never forget the night we got engaged......

Notes about where we're registered...

As we both combined items from my apartment, and items from his apartment, as well as six years as a couple, we have TOO MUCH STUFF.  We would really appreciate monitary gifts to put towards our new home as a family.
